Super Sailor Moon Henshin Doll

Hi guys! Sorry it's been awhile. I got this doll awhile back, but I ended up getting pretty busy with college. Good news? I got good marks! I'm also on summer vacation too, whoo! Depending on how things go, I might end up creating another blog, focusing on OOAK ("One of a Kind", otherwise known as Custom) dolls. I'm hoping this summer I'll be able to get some art supplies and some Monster High/Ever After High dolls to make customs, which will (hopefully) help me develop some skill painting on 3D objects and technical skill in general so I might be able to eventually do resin kits.

One day, resin kits! But today, nor tomorrow, or the next day will be that glorious day. However, what will be happening today is that I'll be going over a purchase I did awhile back. On ebay, I ended up getting a Super Sailor Moon Henshin doll for a relatively cheap price - "cheap" might be variable to each person, but I paid $23 + shipping (which was a bit pricey but it was fast, tracked, and needed a signature - I think the total was about $35, give or take).

Right now, she looks decent. Her hair isn't in the best possible shape, sure, and she has those really annoying upturned bangs that so many dolls Bandai dolls unfortunately seem to have.  

So annoying! But otherwise, she looks fine. But, looks can be deceptive,

She has some marker on the back of her head, along with on the bottoms of both of her boots. I was aware of this - her owner had her listed as 'junk' for a reason, after all. However, I figured one of two things:

1) That I might be able to bleach it out or be able to rub it off (if I was lucky), or

2) Worse case scenario, it's on the back of her head (and the bottoms of her shoes), so it isn't readily visible anyways. 

I tried using a magical erasure, rubbing alcohol, and nail polish remover, and none of them worked on removing the marker on her vinyl or the boots. Using the acne cream treatment, however, I have seen some progress.

I can't read Japanese, so I can' tell what it says exactly, but I assume it was the name of a little kid who owned this previously - it was probably a pretty beloved toy, and their parent probably wanted to make sure the kid wouldn't have their toy stolen or lost easily, if I had to wager a guess. I think in a few more treatments, though, the marker will disappear or barely be noticeable.  

For what it's worth, the bangs are... slowly coming together, I think. It's still a bit messy, but atleast they're finally pointing down, so that's progress in my book! I'm going to focus mostly on getting the marker out for now, though, before I really start to mess with the hair.

I'll be working on getting the marker out of them, but awhile back, I bought another "henshin" Sailor Moon doll - what makes her different form this one, though, is that she is mostly made of plastic... And she's the first kind of Sailor Moon doll ever produce. She's in pretty rough shape, too, but I was really glade when I got her. However, one of the things she was missing, was her boots - chances are I'll never be able to get the original boots, which I'm okay with. However, her legs are pretty similar to the other Japanese Sailor Moon dolls, so I had hoped that I might eventually be able to get another pair and that they would fit her. 

I think they look pretty nice! In worse case scenario, I was just going to but some Irwin Sailor Moon boots on her, but they were rather loose and looked a bit clunky on her, so I was hoping for a tighter fit. Luckily though, these boots do just that!

When I get the doll finished, I might either update this, or make a new post altogether - I'm not sure yet, though hopefully I'll get it fixed up the best I can soon. 

Excellent Pose Eternal Sailor Moon Doll (Bandai Japan)

So, there is a lot of different kinds of Sailor Moon dolls out there. Some are "infamous" for being really ugly (ex: the old Irwin and Igel dolls, and the Bandai North America dolls that probably often get confused with the old Irwin dolls), whereas some others are known for being really pretty (like the 2000 Irwin and Bandai... "Everywhere else besides America" dolls)

Now, for Bandai Japan in particular, a lot of the Sailor Moon doll face molds are really sweet, youthful... However, there is atleast one Sailor Moon doll that is easily probably the most unique. And, without further adieu, that would probably have to be the Excellent Pose Eternal Sailor Moon doll.

She was produced alongside the Starlight dolls (Healer, Fighter, Maker), and they all share a common face mold. This face mold easily makes this Usagi doll probably the most mature looking - she's really quiet pretty. 

However, like the Starlight dolls, she has some "issues" that seems to run common with them. That is, quite frankly, she tends to act like an acrobat - she seems to be rather top heavy, and her top tends to fall backwards. I've heard this is pretty common, and I guess a lot f people who don't have her in the box tend to display her sitting down. When I first got her, she was acting like that - I was really surprised she was behaving as much for these pictures as she was. The stand originally comes with the Super Sailor Moon Crisis doll (and maybe the regular version, I have no idea), so I don't know if maybe it was the stand itself or blind luck or what. 

So, instead of "Excellent Pose" maybe she's more apt to be called "Bedtime Usagi"!

The doll has wire in her arms to make them bend (although I wouldn't suggest it; mine are rather stiff and it is a pretty old doll, so I would rather not wear them out or test anything), her hips have joints so her legs can pivot, and her knees can snap into place. 

I bought her off of someone on deviantart for a small fortune. Unfortunately, when they took her to the post office, something must have happened where she lost her headband! In the future I might make some hair clips myself (I have a Super Sailor Moon Henshin doll in the post missing the headpiece anyways...), although I am kind of tempted to jack my Super Sailor Moon Crisis headband and just make her clips too (since, well, I have to make her choker anyways...)

My name is Erin, and I've been collecting Sailor Moon stuff roughly since I was eight or nine years old. Some of my collection is pretty beat up because of that (being a little kid and all), but it is what it is. I mostly collect vintage and used stuff; Sailor Moon stuff is pretty expensive, so it's a lot easier getting stuff used for a bit cheaper - some of the things I have, if they were mint in box, could go for $100+!
